The Myths Your Guru Didn’t Tell You About
If there is one truth you can believe without a question about running a business, it is that you WILL make mistakes. The key isn’t to avoid all mistakes, the key is to learn from those mistakes.
We will cover a few of the biggest mistakes that many of us make in the business that we hope you can avoid.
#1 — Myth — People Buy Your Signature System
You have to have a system, or you can’t sell anything. People are not buying the steps or the signature system. They are buying the results of that system.
We get caught up in the marketing that is done by so many others in the industry. We are told without a signature system we cannot make any money. Well of course that isn’t true. If you are able to provide a course or a product or a service that isn’t branded as a signature system, you can still make money.
Again, ensure you sell the results. The signature system can come later if you want to do it at all.
#2 — Myth — There is a GURU Out There That Knows It All
There is always going to be a GURU that thinks that they can train everyone on their signature system. However, we have to realize that they may not have started their business where you are in your business now.
There isn’t one person that knows everything. They might know a few things, but they will not know everything. Consider that you can be your own GURU.
#3 — Myth — Success is Defined One Way
Success is defined by where you are in your life and your business. You might be failing at fulfilling the dreams of your younger self, but you might be succeeding at the goals you have now in your business and life, but you haven’t taken the time to redefine yet.
You might realize that success isn’t about just money as you move through life. Consider where you are right now, not where you were to really know what success means for you.
#4 — Myth — You Can Only Succeed if You Don’t Make Mistakes
This is the biggest myth there is out there. You have to make mistakes to learn. The key isn’t to avoid them, but to become resilient. Learning how to bounce back from your mistakes a better predictor of success than how adept you are at avoiding all possible mistakes. If you avoid all mistakes, the chances are you are not taking enough risks.
#5 — Myth — If You Build It, They Will Come
If you build it, you have done something great. However, the next step is to launch. Failure to launch is one of the biggest reasons we fail in this industry. There is more work to do after you build the service or product. Failure to Launch is one of those mistakes you cannot make in your business.
